NZSG Equity Working Group

Convened to give advice with the aim of providing a transparent focus on equity for the Society in its decision making

In November of 2021 the Equity Working Group (EWG) of the Society had their inaugural hui. The group was brought together to give advice with the aim of providing a transparent focus on equity for the Society in its decision making.

Members of EWG include:

Dr Tom Boswell - Gastroenterologist and Clinical Lead bowel screening for Taranaki DHB
Dr Rachael Harry – Hepatologist/Gastroenterologist in Auckland
Dr James Irwin – Gastroenterologist for Palmerston North DHB
Dr Clarence Kerrison - Gastroenterology Trainee at Waikato DHB
Dr Alex Lampton-Smith – Gastroenterologist and HoD at Bay of Plenty DHB
Dr Kirsty McFarlane - Advanced Gastroenterology Trainee at Auckland DHB

At EWG's November hui they considered gender and culture diversity in the workforce along with placements in the upcoming 2022 gastro trainee match. These topics will take precedence in the EWG action plan for 2022 and be key items on their next hui agenda in February 2022.
