In March the highly anticipated Annual Two Day Gastroenterology Trainees Conference was held in Auckland, kindly sponsored again by Pharmaco.
Attended by trainees from across New Zealand, we heard talks from a range of consultants on the varied tapestry that makes up modern day gastroenterology practice. This included talks on future therapies for inflammatory bowel disease, updates on treatment guidelines for Hepatitis B, practical tips for treating functional disorders, basic and more advanced endoscopy including video sessions and talks from surgeons on surgical management of inflammatory bowel disease and bariatric surgery concepts. In addition, career talks on advice becoming a new consultant and the workforce were the highlights. This was all washed down with a Japanese themed buffet dinner that featured a profusion of both raw and cooked foods, most of which were eaten.
We are so grateful for the coterie of clinician’s that volunteer and shift commitments to share ideas, passion and advice to the trainee’s. This event remains a highlight both for the learning but also the collegiality which is built between trainees.
Until next year,
