In 2022, over 23 Advanced Trainees attended. Tautoko to Gastroenterology departments across the country for their support of this valuable educational opportunity, despite a busy time for us all.
Tena koutou katoa,
We had a fantastic annual trainees’ meeting in Auckland from16-17th June 2022. This is the first year that the Event has been under the official umbrella of NZSG, with support from Dr Lesley-Ann Smith as Exec Education Lead to build a three-year rolling curriculum.
We heard from a variety of speakers including Gastroenterologists, specialist nurses/nurse practitioners, surgeons and dietitians covering topics as diverse as the management of early inflammatory bowel disease, medications, viral hepatitis, liver transplantation, dietary therapies for irritable bowel syndrome, approach to the identification and resection of colonic polyps, equity and diversity and work-life balance.
There was a combination of both virtual and in person presentations and the pearls of wisdom from all our speakers were invaluable.
The feedback from trainees was overwhelmingly positive, cementing this meeting as a highly valued event in the trainees’ calendar. We are very grateful for all the speakers at this meeting and to Emma from Conference Innovators for her organisational prowess.
We would also like to extend a special thank you to Pharmaco and Ferring for their continued sponsorship of this superb educational conference, and to the New Zealand Gastroenterology society for encompassing this great event and providing outstanding leadership to us juniors.
Nga mihi
Dr Akhilesh Swaminathan and Dr Kirsty MacFarlane
