If you're interested in being part of a dynamic and successful team please ask two NZSG member colleagues to nominate you, and return the nominee form by Friday 28 October 2022.

Kia ora NZSG Member,

Seeking Nominations to join the NZSG Executive

The 2022 NZSG Elections are coming up in three months at the November Annual General Meeting, during our Annual Scientific Meeting in Tamaki Makaurau, Auckland. There is availability for new members to join the NZSG Executive whānau, leading our Society and profession into the future. We require specialists from across our profession; a diverse team in terms of gender, ethnicity, place of work, and experience.

Why should you be interested in a position on the Executive Committee?

There are many issues that directly impact the Society, our profession, our patients and our career paths. Investments in training, kōrero with Te Whatu Ora and Te Aka Whai Ora, ongoing dialogue with Pharmac to address desperate medication need, continuing our work in equity, supporting education events, research awards, study grants and our Annual Scientific Meeting are all part of NZSG’s work. A place on the Executive means you can shape the future of gastroenterology in Aotearoa New Zealand during this exciting time.

What is the commitment?

Being on the Executive is initially a two-year term, that requires attendance at 7-9 two-hour evening zoom hui and 2-3 five-hour face-to-face meetings a year. You will be asked to contribute to agenda items, take on projects that suit your experience and interests, support special interest groups, share your knowledge and understanding with your Executive Colleagues and Society Members, and respond to correspondence for urgent items and to approve new members.

If you're interested in being part of a dynamic and successful team please ask two NZSG member colleagues to nominate you, and return the nominee form by Friday 28 October 2022. The form to complete and return to office@nzsg.org.nz is attached below.

We have also attached a draft Charter for Executive Members which is not finalised however will allow interested members some additional information on being a member of the Executive.

The current composition of the Committee in 2023 is as follows:

  • Catherine Stedman President
  • Zoe Raos Immediate Past President
  • Andrew Day Secretary
  • Simone Bayer Treasurer
  • Lesley-Ann Smith Educational Lead
  • Thomas Caspritz Elected Member
  • Dominic Ray-Chaudhuri Elected Member
  • James Irwin Elected Member
  • Vacant Elected Member
  • Vacant Elected Member
  • Vacant Elected Member
  • Merrilee William Ex-officio, Nursing Representative
  • Vacant Ex-officio, Trainee Representative

The Executive has worked hard with our members to secure NZSG’s future, with a five-year strategic plan (attached) that sets the kaupapa and direction of travel, a stable financial position and a new administrative set-up and service agreement.

My time on the Executive, even with attendant stresses of a pandemic and major organizational change, has been incredibly rewarding in terms of the mahi we have done, the opportunity to work with fantastic colleagues from around the country and internationally, all underpinned by the support of a skilled and capable Executive Officer. I hope you will consider a role on NZSG’s Executive, to support our growth from strength to strength.
