Tēnei te mihi, ki a koutou te whānau.
Ka whawhai tonu tātou mō te Tititi, nō ngā tangata whenua, me ngā rangatahi. E tū ana tātou ki ngā ka whakamāmā, e tū ana tātou mō te mārama-tanga. E raranga ana tātou i te korowai tiaki mō a tātou rōpū e rima miriona. Ko mātau nga kaitiaki, nga kaiārahi, nga kaiako.
Standing in front of you all, in November, with my whānau on the stage, and the gastro iwi all around, all singing a waiata about standing together was a powerful and humbling moment. We face challenges that require togetherness, respectfulness, inclusiveness and transparency to overcome. Inequity must be addressed. We stand with tangata whenua, and people living with difficult and disabling conditions. We support one another around the country as we care, teach, learn, lead, push the boundaries of science and expand our knowledge.
Tēnā rawa atu koe Malcolm - thank you for stepping up with humour and determination, leading us through 2020, in an extraordinary year of challenge. Thank you to all presidents who have come before, to those on the executive and everyone who contributes to our work. It is my absolute privilege to be the President of the NZSG.
