Dr Russell Walmsley reports on the successful TCT course
The latest, and only, Train the Colonoscopy Trainers course for 2020 took place at Olympus Live and Waitakere Hospitals in Auckland at the end of November. Five candidates managed to attend; 3 surgeons and 2 gastroenterologists. The first day consisting of educational theory, mini-teaching episodes and role play with Koken simulators was then followed by hands-on live colonoscopy with remote observation and critique. The faculty was expanded to include Russell Walmsley, Jim Brooker, Mike Hulme-Moir, Nicolla Grifiths with Lesley-Ann Smith taking an observing role. In a supportive, collegiate atmosphere serious learning was combined with humour over two intense days. Some of the feedback comments included; “ I have taken away a constructive experience” “ challenging but worthwhile practical” "Highly recommended” "Wonderful course" "Excellent trainers”
Thanks to Olympus for sponsoring the event, providing the excellent educational facilities at Olympus Live in Albany and for the set up of the audio-visual equipment at the endoscopy room.
We hope to be able to arrange he next TCT in May next year. The tentative dates are Sunday 30th - Monday 31st May.
