Trainees Day 2025
The Gastroenterology Trainees Day, held over the 5th and 6th of June, brought together many trainees from across the motu for two days of dedicated and protected learning. The event delivered a diverse and engaging programme that reflected the breadth of gastroenterology. It was incredibly well received and, the event provided an invaluable opportunity for trainees to deepen their clinical knowledge, explore emerging evidence, and engage directly with consultants across a wide range of subspecialty areas.
The academic content of the meeting spanned a wide spectrum of topics, offering rich insights into the core pillars of gastroenterology practice. Sessions included expert-led discussions in hepatology, IBD, motility and interventional endoscopy. These sessions provided an in depth look at important and developing areas in understanding novel diagnostic techniques, guideline-based approaches and management considerations.
A well-received component of the programme was the session on career planning. This allowed trainees to engage in candid conversations about career progression, balancing clinical and research interests, and understanding opportunities within both public and private sectors. The inclusion of this session added depth to the educational experience.
The event was attended by a significant number of advanced trainees from around the country, highlighting its national reach and importance. The feedback received from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with many highlighting the value of the protected time for learning, broadness of topics covered and the opportunity to engage directly with expert speakers. Similarly, presenters commended the enthusiasm, engagement, and calibre
of questions from the attendees.
Special thanks must be extended to Roche and Pharmaco for their generous sponsorship, without which this event would not have been possible. Their continued support of education and training in gastroenterology is deeply appreciated and instrumental in enabling such high- quality learning experiences.
In summary, the 2025 Gastroenterology Trainees Day was a resounding success, delivering high-value education across key topics while also fostering professional connections and inspiring the next generation of gastroenterologists. The event has stressed the importance of its place in the gastroenterology training programme to ensure standardised academic and professional development for all our trainees and importantly keeping us all connected as future colleagues.
