President’s Update

Kia Ora

As the end of the year rapidly approaches, I am aware that this is my last update for the Panui as President of NZSG.  The past couple of months have brought both highs and lows for me on a personal level, celebrating both a silver medal at the Paralympics with my son William in Paris, and a recent family bereavement.

The major work project for me at the NZSG level has been working with a group of our Past Presidents and our legal team to fully revise the NZSG Constitution in preparation for re-registration as an Incorporated Society in 2025. This is essential to our survival as an organisation and so is a high priority! Please ensure that you attend the AGM or provide your proxy vote as we need members to endorse this revised constitution so that we can move forward with this process.

I also encourage you to consider if there is anyone you think should be nominated for Honorary Membership for the NZSG, and/ or to also consider if you or a colleague would like to be nominated to join the NZSG Exec- this is a great opportunity for advocacy and to help support and grow our profession in gastroenterology.

The Annual Scientific Meeting in Hamilton is fast approaching with a strong programme, and the endoscopy symposium with a team from Mayo Clinic will be a key highlight. I will also be handing over the NZSG Presidency into the capable hands of Professor Andrew Day, but will be continuing in a supportive role as Past President for the next year.

Thanks very much

Catherine
