Meet Your Executive

Kia ora koutou,

I am Simone Bayer, the current treasurer. I am honoured to introduce the new series “Meet the Executive”.

I am a 2009 transplant from Germany and currently live with my husband, our dog, and two budgies outside of Christchurch. I am an early career researcher (University of Otago) with a PhD in Pathology, and my research focus is on irritable bowel syndrome. I also have a Bachelor’s in Finance from my time working at a German bank.

I joined the NZSG because to give back to the gastro community is important to me. I felt intimidated at first since I have no medical background. When the position of treasurer was up for election, I was sure I could support the NZSG in that role. This year I have taken on lead of ‘Project REXIT' as NZSG moves from the RACP to a new association with NZSA.

As treasurer, I monitor the overall finances of the society and provide input into the budget. I also co-authorise payments and manage the investments of the society.
