Te Whatu Ora, Health New Zealand, leads the day-to-day running of our health system across New Zealand, with functions delivered at local, district, regional and national levels. The Team

The Department of General Surgery at Christchurch Hospital provide a comprehensive range of tertiary level, acute and elective General Surgical services to the people of Canterbury and beyond.

The Department currently comprises:

  • 27 General Surgeons
  • 4 Fellows/Medical Officers
  • 22 Registrars
  • 12 House Officers

Covering the following sub-speciality areas:

  • Oncoplastic Breast and Endocrine
  • Upper GI
  • HPB
  • Lower GI

We are supported by three inpatient ward areas, specialist nursing staff, and a comprehensive range of Allied health services

Mō te tūnga - About the role

The Department of General Surgery is offering a 12-month Fellowship in General and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery. This Fellowship position is for a one-year fixed-term role that is aimed at Fellows who wish to increase their clinical experience in a large tertiary hospital. The successful applicant will be required to participate in the acute service on a rotational basis.

This full-time, fixed-term role will commence in February 2025.
