2026 Advanced Gastroenterology Training Opportunities (Match 2025) Information

If you are applying for the first time for a placement as a year 1 trainee

If you are a basic trainee completing your entrance exam for advanced training with RACP in June, the Society welcomes your application and interest in the Gastroenterology Advanced Trainees Programme for 2026.  

The programme runs for three years and takes you across the motu to training facilities throughout Aotearoa New Zealand. 

To apply please send your completed CV using the template2025_CV Template_MATCH.docx Please ensure you include the names and contact details (phone if known and email) for three referees as noted within the template. 

If you need more information, please email the NZSG Executive Officer at office@nzsg.org.nz as soon as possible. 

There is an administration fee of $450 which NZSG will invoice you for upon receipt of your complete application along with further documentation to complete and return prior to a pending interview. Interviews will be scheduled, and applicants notified of their application status the week of 4 June

. 

Please note applicants need to pass the clinical exam

to enter the advanced training program. 

Interviews will be in person Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th of July 2025

in Wellington. 

For Returning Trainees for to year two and three of the programme.

Do you know a basic trainee who is not yet ready to become in advanced trainee but keen to know more about becoming a gastroenterologist?

Encourage them to learn more about the profession by doing a general med rotation, speaking to a SMO in the gastroenterology department where their posted or contacting us at office@nzsg.org.nz where our friendly Executive Officer will help them make contact with a practitioner and/or current trainee(s) in the New Zealand Gastroenterology Community.
