Celebrate the 70th anniversary of AMRF

The AMRF are delighted to invite you to the second of our three-speaker series for 2025, where three esteemed NZ researcher’s, funded by Auckland Medical Research Foundation (AMRF), will share how they have contributed to national and global health. 

Come and help them celebrate the 70th anniversary of AMRF and the awarding of over $100 Million funding of medical research since their inception in 1955.

Join us at 7pm Thursday May 22, to hear from Associate Professor Gary Cheung and Dr. Rosemary Frey, who have significantly advanced palliative care in New Zealand, followed by Professor John Windsor whose pioneering pancreatic work has helped with ground-breaking solutions to enhance patient safety and recovery.

  • Dr Rosemary Frey, Senior Research Fellow Nursing, whose research career has focused on how to reduce suffering at the end of life and seeks to empower teams delivering this service with the knowledge and confidence to deliver a quality palliative care experience.

  • Associate Professor Gary Cheung, Clinical and Medical Psychological Medicine, specialises in old age psychiatry and will present his research into increasing understanding of all factors influencing a person’s experience as they near their final days of life, along with the complexities of assisted dying.

  • Professor John Windsor, Medical Surgery and Pancreatic Surgeon, will share highlights of his career and show how new approaches have been developed through combining basic, clinical and bioengineering science to prevent multiple organ failure, the leading cause of death from acute pancreatitis.
